YG Arrested for Robbery at Las Vegas Casino

YG robbery

Up-and-coming rapper YG is in trouble with the law again. He was arrested July 12 after a Las Vegas court issued a warrant for him. The rapper turned himself in on Thursday and posted a $20,000 bail to secure his temporary and uncertain freedom.

Felony Charges

YG, whose real name is Keenan Jackson, was arrested on a felony robbery charge for allegedly stealing a fan’s necklace. The necklace is said to be laced with diamonds and is estimated to be worth somewhere between $3,000 and $9,000. That is not all, however. The victim also claims that YG’s security and friends roughed him up because the rapper ordered them to do so.

What Went Down?

It was late May when the alleged incident occurred at the Cosmopolitan Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. YG and his crew were partying at the casino at around 4 a.m. when a fan approached the rapper for a photograph. YG allegedly turned the fan away, which provoked an exchange of words. According to witnesses, the fan called out YG for his arrogance and allegedly told him that he was not a real celebrity. Expectedly, this rubbed the rapper the wrong way.

In retaliation, YG allegedly insulted the fan and, at the peak of the confrontation, ordered his crew to “get him.” The fan alleges that YG’s crew beat him up and that he sustained several injuries. He also accuses the rapper of yanking his diamond-laced chain off his neck during the scuffle. YG allegedly took off with the chain after the scuffle, leaving the disgruntled fan behind.

Caught on Video

Expectedly, YG was quick to refute the claims. However, he may find it difficult to prove his innocence because there is video evidence of the incident. The scuffle was caught on video by the casino’s security cameras, and it clearly shows YG yanking the chain off the fan’s neck. The chain then falls to the ground because of the scuffle, and YG quickly picks it up and takes off with it.

There are also a lot of witnesses who were present at the time of the incident, but it is not yet clear whether anyone will testify.

A $250,000 Compensation in the Talks

What started off as an ordinary confrontation may result in a huge loss for YG. The disgruntled fan is not easing his pressure on the rapper, and reports by TMZ allege that he is seeking $250,000 in compensation. If found guilty, which will be the likely outcome considering the overwhelming evidence against him, YG will have to fork out the money or serve time.

A Lifetime of Crime

It is not the first time that YG has run into trouble with the law. In fact, he has been arrested and even imprisoned several times before for various crimes.

YG was born and raised in Compton, Calif., which is infamous for gang activity. He publicly admits to having been involved in gangs when growing up and has even been a part of crimes committed by gangs. He allegedly got his first gun when he was just a teenager. He was first arrested and imprisoned on a burglary charge in 2009 but managed to get off lightly on parole. He would come into the limelight five years later in 2014 when he released My Krazy Life, which was ranked by Billboard as the best rap album of 2014. He was shot one year late by an unknown gunman for gang-related reasons. Now, YG is looking at another possible jail term if he is found guilty.
