Wynn Resorts fills the Position of Chief Sustainability Officer

Wynn Resorts has just introduced a new position in its bid to cut energy costs, reduce its carbon footprint, and position itself as a leader in environmental protection. The new position, chief sustainability officer, has already been filled, according to the managerial team. The new CSO, Erik Hansen, has been described as the perfect candidate for the job.
Erik Hansen – A Brief Career Review
Hansen has a lot of experience in energy procurement and utilization, and that experience spans about 25 years. His career began at NV Energy where he served in various capacities, including in the positions involving business development, power trading, project leadership, and transmission policy and contracts, for more than 10 years. Hansen also served as the vice president of EnergySource. During his time at the energy giant, Hansen was responsible for representing some of Nevada’s largest energy customers in diverse industries, including gaming, mining, utilities, data centers, and technology firms.
Hansen is not new to Wynn Resorts. He joined the company in 2016. He previously held the position of director of Energy Procurement, and his dynamic policies during this short time in the position helped propel Wynn Resorts to the top of the ladder when it came to environmental stewardship.
One of Hansen’s most notable contributions to Wynn Resorts is the development of a 160-acre solar farm. Hansen was responsible for overseeing the negotiation, building, and opening of the Wynn Solar Facility, which currently produces more than 20 megawatts of power and caters to more than 80 percent of the Wynn Las Vegas and Encore entity. Hansen has also been credited for overseeing and implementing the shift to the open energy market by Wynn Las Vegas and Encore, and the company plans to bring other entities on board. What’s more, he is currently working on the development of an energy supply system that will integrate and utilize the first microgrid system. This system will be implemented at the Encore Boston Harbor property where the company is building a new resort and casino.
Responsibilities of the Chief Sustainability Officer
Hansen’s main task as the chief sustainability officer will be to develop the company’s energy sustainability strategy and, by doing so, achieve all the set procurement goals. This will entail several issues, including continuing of some of the policies he initiated during his time as the director of Energy Procurement.
While it is too early to tell what projects the new department will undertake under Hansen, customers and shareholders can expect good things considering the confidence expressed by the managerial department. Speaking about the change, Executive Vice President Kim Sinatra described Hansen as a revolutionary who was and still is instrumental in nurturing the company’s sustainability strategy. Sinatra further explained that Hansen’s experience in this field extends beyond the environmental protection and the government regulations governing it. Sinatra was confident that Hansen’s extensive knowledge in cutting-edge technologies would help Wynn Resorts stay ahead of its competition when it comes to environmental stewardship and help to cut energy-related costs.
The Current State of Wynn Resorts
Wynn Resorts has been performing fairly well in spite of the internal wrangling. It has risen quickly up the ranks to become one of the leading environmental stewards in the gambling and hotel industries, and this has helped boost its performance and image worldwide.
The company currently owns three facilities: Wynn Las Vegas and Encore; Wynn Macau; and Wynn Palace, Cotai. It is also working on the construction of a new facility at the Encore Boston Harbor in Everett, Mass., which will reportedly be the best and most technologically advanced facility yet.
