Brock Satter feels "cheated and empty" about the year he was involved with a group called the MasterPath and spiritual leader Gary Olsen of Detroit Lakes, Minn.
Rick Ross, a professional deprogrammer from Phoenix, Ariz., about a month ago successfully brought Satter and Beth Silver, Satter's former Fargo South High School classmate, away from what Ross calls a "destructive cult."
Ross was asked to deprogram Brock and Beth, both 19, by their parents, who say they sensed changes in their children's personalities after they became involved in the group.
Curious to find out more about the organization, Paulette Satter attended one of the meetings in Fargo to find out what Olsen and his group of about 25 chelas, or followers, were all about.
"It was like being hit in the head with a bolt of lightning," she said. "Nothing made any sense." She said she decided to seek help in trying to get Brock out of the group when Olsen told the group, "Everything wrong you learned in you life, you learned from your parents."
