Letter to the Editor

Lake City Reporter, February 23, 2000

This letter was addressed to June Van Liere:

Your letter that appeared in the Lake City Reporter was very moving and I fully agree with you concerning this so-called religion. They "used" to be closed off and secretive and would allow no outsiders in. Now they take out a big ad in the local paper all the time inviting new members to join! It's as if there's been a complete turnaround with them.

The "Endtimers" own a whole heap of local businesses. I had to complain to the state in Tallahassee about one of them but haven't followed through as of yet. A local Endtimer business ripped me off big time and laughed in my face when I told them I was contacting the state. This was about three years ago, when the aforementioned business folded under, but they have since re-opened under the same name! This with my negative comments attributed to them with the Consumer's Affairs office in Tallahassee on file for the whole world to see.

I even sent a letter to Charles Meade directly asking him to intercede and get his "follower" to own up to his stealing my money but never even heard the courtesy of a reply. This letter cost me $5 to send because I made it restricted delivery to Mr. Meade himself, so that ought to tell you how very religious he is.

I don't care how many millions of dollars this giant church has cost, as far as I'm concerned they are what the TV show 20/20 called them over seven years ago - a cult - and the proof of that is in Mr. Meade's failure to even try to explain to me why his so-called follower wouldn't give me a refund. This is not a disgruntled customer's opinion only. Bob Butterworth's office at the Division of Consumer Services, Mayo Building, Second Floor, Tallahassee, Fla. 32399-0800, also agreed with me fully, but all he could do was put a bad mark against them business wise since they refused to work with us.

I hope what I have written will somehow make you feel a little better knowing that someone out here agrees with you. This group can buy all they want, but they sure aren't fooling me!
